  • Schools are the only institutions with the capacity and mandate to reach virtually every young person in this country.

In Connecticut, hundreds of millions of dollars are spent building new schools each year. Nearly one out of five people in Connecticut spends part of his or her day in a school building.  High Performance or "Green" schools are good for everyone involved including the millions of students, teachers, administrators, parents  that pass through the doors of schools each year.

The goal of this resource is to help each school in the process of becoming a high performance or "green" school. There are multiple co-benefits to students and their communities including cost savings and lower lifetime operating costs, healthier environments, enhanced learning atmosphere and environmental stewardship.

These Schools in this section range from schools that are among the first to incorporate high performance practices or LEED standards to those schools just starting the process.

All schools that are or want to adopt policies and programs regarding energy efficiency, recycling, improved air quality, daylighting, reducing use of toxic chemicals and other such practices are invited to be included in this section.
